Cut from a similarly iridescent cloth to the likes of Purity Ring, The Knife and Hockeysmith, Margate-based artist BABii has just revealed details of her new EP iii with a single that's equal parts edgy and ethereal. Opening with an ambient sequence of ascending back vocals, glacial synths slice through the icy atmosphere on 'BEAST' as harsh, techno-inspired beats throb robotically in the undertow. Lyrically pining from a distance, BABii explains: 'BEAST' is about being far away in proximity from someone but still feeling emotionally close to them, and realising the opposite could be much worse, being in close proximity to someone but emotionally feeling distant from them." Serving as the first taste of things to come following BABii's 2019 debut LP HiiDE, 'BEAST' sets the bar high for the rest of iii, which will be released on the 27th of March. -Holly Mullineaux
